Council for the Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 appoints Councillors—and, in some cases, public representatives (members-at-large) — to a variety of Boards, Committees and Commissions. These bodies help deliver programs, provide governance and oversight, and advise Council on specialized matters relevant to its residents.
The mandate of a Board, Committee or Commission is established in governing bylaws or terms of reference and can include:
Advising Council: Providing input and recommendations on policies, bylaws, budgets, and strategic planning.
Managing Services & Programs: Overseeing or guiding the delivery of municipal services such as waste management, libraries, recreation, or agricultural services.
Regulatory Functions: Acting in a quasi-judicial role to review development applications, subdivision appeals, or bylaw enforcement matters.
Regional & Intermunicipal Cooperation: Representing the Municipality in partnerships with neighbouring municipalities and organizations.
Community Engagement: Offering a forum for residents to participate in local government and ensuring diverse perspectives are considered.
Members-at-Large
Each year, the Municipality will recruit members-at-large (public representatives) to serve on select boards, committees and commissions.
