The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act provides individuals with the right to request access to information in the custody or control of public bodies while providing public bodies with a framework for conducting the collection, use and disclosure of personal information.
The FOIP Act aims to strike a balance between the public’s right to know and an individual’s right to privacy.
The Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 will only disclose information in accordance with the FOIP Act.
Summary of the FOIP Act:
- You have the right to request access to Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 information.
- You have the right to access your own information.
- You have the right to request that the Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 correct your personal information.
- The Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 must tell you why it is collecting your personal information.
- The Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 must only collect, use, and disclose your personal information for the purposes stated in the Act.
You have the right to complain about any issue related to FOIP, including an access request you have made or a privacy breach. Complainants may be directed to request an independent review of any issue related to FOIP by the provincial Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
FOIP – Access to Information Requests
A “general” request is a written request for records that are not your own personal information.
A “personal” request is a written request for records about you.
To request information:
- Complete and submit an official Request to Access Information Form.
- Send a written request indicating, in detail, the desired information.
